“Big On Yoga”
So, why is everyone so “Big On Yoga?”
Yoga has gained tremendous popularity over more “traditional” exercise classes at many fitness venues throughout the country. Did you know that over 15 million people practiced yoga in 2003, according to a landmark study by Yoga Journal magazine? Beginning the practice of Yoga raises many questions for those looking for a viable exercise to increase flexibility and energy- especially for individuals who may be “of size,” or who may have physical limitations. Most exercise classes lack the “one size fits all” label, and the beauty of Yoga is that it can be practiced at an individual's own pace- even within a class setting.
At your introductory class, you will learn about the history, the different styles, and the therapeutic and health benefits of practicing Yoga. During our “Big On Yoga” sessions, you will learn stretches, breathing exercises and asanas (poses) that focus on decompressing joints and lengthening and loosening the body's soft tissues.
We welcome any and all persons, regardless of size or physical ability. Learn modified poses and exercises that will work specifically with your individual size and shape. Those who may have previously found themselves uncomfortable in an exercise class setting are strongly encouraged to attend. Men and women both are welcome.
“Big On Yoga" is for beginners, but students will progress through intermediate exercises and asanas.
"Body Fusion"
This class incorporates yoga, dance and advanced stretching and is a great follow-up for those who have completed "Big on Yoga." Also great for others who are seeking a fun, creative way to exercise or who are learning to be more comfortable in their own skin.
Learn about the "chakras" and how to exercise the "energy" systems within your body as you physically work out. You will learn variations of yoga asanas, assisted thai-massage poses and deepen your flexibility with resistant stretches. Learn how to isolate muscles and stretch properly- which should be a daily habit for all.
Enjoyable therapy for all who want to decrease their risk of musculosketal injury and increase the range of motion in joints. Once a routine is established, "Body Fusion" increases circulation and can produce a cardio-vascular workout. Always set to music and is sometimes meditative, but usually our music will make you want to move.
Participants should have some knowlegde of yoga fundamentals and have a strong interest in ethnic dance. Throughout this series, professional guest dancers will lead this class to introduce new modalities and styles. Men and women both are welcome. Join us for the most fun, most interesting work-out you will find anywhere!
